When you’re setting goals on your health and fitness journey, it can be really difficult to achieve those goals long-term. Whether you’re wanting to lose weight, gain muscle, and/or just totally change your body composition, you probably have no idea how to make it happen, or how to keep your results for good.
While I think we should always love our bodies and be proud of what they do for us, it's totally okay to want to improve them too. So many people are able to lose weight, gain muscle, get stronger, etc., but do they really know HOW they were able to do those things? For example, I know so many ladies who have done Weight Watchers, and seen great success with it. They love it and are happy to tell you everything about Weight Watchers and the program, they really have no idea how they lost the weight, or what the food poin values mean, and that kind of thing (by the way-it's a calorie deficit)!
They don't actually learn or understand the process of losing weight, and how to keep it off long-term, so once they stop doing the program (like WW), they end up losing their progress, and think they've failed.
Believe me-I've had SO many ladies come to me over the years who have gone on diets, seen success for a little bit, and then ‘failed’ after a while-it used to happen to me too!
In today’s episode, I’m talking about:
- Why you don’t really understand how to lose weight and/or gain muscle, and keep it off long-term. It's easy for you to get 'stuck' in the ugly cycle of dieting and working out like crazy because you don't really understand the basics. We try to overhaul our entire life all at once, and it leads us to feeling like a failure when we can't change everything and see success right away.
- What it actually looks like to take your time and master one thing at a time on your journey. It really isn't complicated (it's actually very simple), but it does take time, and it depends on what your goals are for your fitness journey.
- My own story of getting consistent with one thing at a time on my fitness journey, and how I help my clients do the same. I personally went from following the 'norm', and decided I wanted learn why I'm doing these things, and why they work. I started with learning about macros, and then tracking my food and nutrition (which took me a long time master). Once I felt liked I mastered my macros, I moved on to my workouts, and followed a similar process.I help my ladies do this as well-start with macros, and then go to workouts, but some prefer to do the opposite (start with workouts, and then focus on macros and nutrition). It really doesn't matter, but you have to find what works best for you, and get really good at that one thing first.
The importance of mastering one thing at a time on your fitness journey-not 'all the things'.
You absolutely have to have the right tools and habits to hit your goals on your fitness journey, and not put pressure on yourself to change your entire lifestyle at once. What you need to do is get very consistent, and work with/learn from someone who has been where you are, and they’re now where you want to go. Accountability is HUGE on your journey!
You won’t be able to achieve all of your goals and change your entire life overnight-it’s just not going to happen. Learning to do and then master one thing at a time really is the key. Once you start seeing results, you’ll be gaining confidence, improving your mindset, and you will truly be unstoppable!
