The hard truth about disordered eating

I really want to bring awareness to something that I know can be triggering for some to hear, but I also know it’s extremely important for me to share about. Disordered eating (this is different from a specific eating disorder) is something I used to struggle with, and the majority of my clients are struggling with this in some aspect when we first start working together. This episode was actually inspired by my clients, because time and time again, I see this at the start of our journey together.

Nutrition can be tough; all of the low-carb, low fat, low calorie, etc. diets are everywhere. Even things like intermittent fasting and intuitive eating can lead us to be obsessive, and if we don't truly understand what we're doing, it can be detrimental to our long-term health.

In today’s episode, I’m talking about:

  • My personal story of suffering with disordered eating. I've shared before about the multiple different diets I've done in the past (pretty sure I've done about everything out there in some form or another). I used to count every calorie and measure out every single thing I was eating before it went into my mouth. I viewed plenty of foods as 'bad' (meaning I wouldn't eat them, or I would only eat them when no one was looking). My overall anxiety and overall relationship with food was awful, and it was no way to live.
  • The hard truth surrounding disordered eating due to diet culture, wanting to lose weight and be smaller, etc. We're constantly surrounded by diets and are being told to lose weight, be smaller, be less, eat less, and on and on.
  • Learning to fuel your body and view food differently (aka not let it control your life). I let my ladies know (my clients who I work with) that this used to be me, and you CAN overcome this if this is a struggle for you! It does take time and is a slow process, but getting to the other side and not fearing food or calories or anything like that is a truly beautiful thing.

The hard truth about disordered eating is very real, but it should not be your reality.

Whether you’ve personally experienced disordered eating or not, it is a very real thing, and it’s just not the way to live. I KNEW this was a subject I needed to bring to light, because I am living proof that you can overcome this, and only great things will happen as a result.

I absolutely love seeing the ladies I work with learn to fuel their bodies, and as a result, gain confidence, and feel fulfilled. I want you to know that there is a better way, and you CAN feel better when it comes to your health, and your body-for life!
