How I coach my ladies to reach their long-term health and fitness goals

Have you ever been doing “all the right things”, like working out more, counting your macros, drinking more water, etc., but you’re still not seeing the results that you wanted? You probably think you’re doing something wrong, because obviously, you’re not getting results you hoped for!  It just feels easier to quit altogether..right? I know it can be super frustrating-I’ve been there, and I see this all of the time with my clients when we first start working together.

 I want to share a little snippet about something called 'reverse dieting', and it's actually what I normally do with my clients when we first start working together. This can be kind of scary and seem opposite of what you should be doing to lose weight, because you're essentially eating more calories (it actually works really well though, if done properly).

I know that for me, just this concept of 'eating more', and reverse dieting in itself was really foreign to me. So I had to learn about reverse dieting, and once I did, I had to take action and see results for it to work. Someone actually told me that what I was doing was actually reverse dieting, and I realized it worked, since I finally WAS seeing results!

I think sometimes doing it instead of knowing exactly what it is, can be very, very beneficial. After I learned how to do this myself and realized reverse dieting worked, and I was able to reach my long-term health and fitness goals, I started teaching and coaching my ladies in this way too. Sometimes my ladies lose weight really quickly when we start working together, and other times it may take several weeks before they see any weight loss (I know that can seem scary!) Other wins come into play here though, like increased energy levels, decreased joint pain, improved digestion, etc.; your goal should not only be weight loss.

In today's episode, I'm talking about:

  • What reverse dieting is, and why it may be beneficial for you

  •  2 key things that I always take into account when I coach my ladies, which are (#1) their starting place, and (#2) their goals for their health and fitness (short and long-term)

  •  Why it’s so important to have support and accountability from a coach on your health and fitness journey

You have to remember-your body uses calories for energy, and if you are not feeding it enough calories, your body will hold onto fat. Your body HAS to be able to trust you. As you start to eat more and more calories, your body weight is staying the same, but your physique is changing. Your body is slowly realizing that, okay, she's going to start feeding me enough. So eventually, it will realize that it can let go of some of the fat that it have stored up for energy because finally it's getting what it needs! This process does take time though, and it won't happen overnight.

If you're just starting your macro journey or you're starting any kind of diet, and you're not seeing the results, think about how long you've put your body through hell. Maybe it's going to take a little bit longer for your body to trust you. That is really what's happening in your body, deep down. It's primed and designed to help you, heal you, and to protect itself. That's what it's doing when you've f*cked up your metabolism and your hormones. Your body truly just needs time to trust you again.

I want you to be able to achieve long-term success with your health and fitness goals, and not feel like you have to work out all of the time, and diet forever-nobody should be doing that! I love showing my ladies a better way to reach their goals long-term, without sacrificing everything they love. It's ok to hit a plateau and feel stuck on your health and fitness journey, but you don’t have to stay there. Once you learn how your body works and what it needs to function properly, you’ll gain more confidence, and start feeling better from the inside out!
