Episode 14: My Best Tips for Enjoying Parties, Vacations, and All Things Summer

We’re officially into the summer season, and this is by far my favorite time of year! While I love this time of year, I know how easy it is to feel overwhelmed when it comes to the summer parties, vacations, holidays, etc. too. I don’t want you to feel stressed and like you can’t enjoy all of the fun summer things, just because you think your progress will be ruined (or like you can’t continue making progress). Fortunately, I have some simple tips you can put into practice as you navigate any kind of special event or trip this summer.
Before I dive into all of my tips, I want to share about something I've been doing more of recently, which is journaling. I had a journaling prompt that recently asked me if I had found my purpose in life. At the time, I was going through something pretty tough, kind of sticky, and I was just questioning things. Honestly, it felt REALLY good to be able to honestly answer 'yes' when I thought about my purpose. I'm helping women come out of their shell, and think about health and fitness, their bodies, their confidence, their food, their workouts, and even their mindset in a different way. They're able to get out of the trap we've all easily fallen in with health and fitness, social media, etc.
I want to encourage you to not be afraid to find and pursue your purpose, no matter what stage of life you're in! It brings me so much joy and happiness to hear your messages, read your comments, etc. about how I'm helping you, and how your life has changed in some way, because of what I'm sharing. Thank you for being here with me, and listening to my message every week!
In today's episode, I'm diving into tips to help you with your health and fitness goals this summer, as well as how to navigate special events, and vacations.
3 tips to help you make progress with your health and fitness goals over the summer:
- You have to change your mindset, and realize you are in control of your goals
- You have to WANT to change for the better, and stop falling into old cycles and habits
- You have to stop cutting out foods that you think you "can't" have
7 tips for navigating special events (parties, holidays, etc.):
- Plan ahead for the event
- Don't show up super hungry (try to front load your day with protein especially)
- Save some room for the meal(s) at the event, as well as treats you really want to have
- Get a workout in before you go to the event
- Bring a dish or treat that you will enjoy eating, and you also won't feel guilty about (ex. maybe a "healthier" option like a pretty salad or cowboy caviar)
- Don't be afraid to say 'no' to things at the event
- Don't be afraid to say 'yes' to things at the event
3 tips for when you're going on vacation:
- Bring your workout gear with you, like bands and light dumbbells. If you can't bring anything with you, make sure to get some kind of movement in every day
- Plan ahead and give yourself some meals and days to go a little "overboard", and really enjoy yourself (don't make it a free-for-all every single day though). When you're not splurging and planning to stay on track more, make sure to eat balanced meals and reduce 'snacking'
- Lower your expectations, and remember your routine will NOT be exact same when on vacation (and that's okay)
I want to remind you that these parties, vacations, and all of the summer activities are meant to be enjoyed. Yes, you can absolutely still make progress with your goals, but you shouldn’t feel like you need to miss out on special occasions, just because you aren’t at your ‘goal weight’; life is about SO much more than your weight or bathing suit size anyway! I want you to feel confident and in control, and I know all of these tips will help you rock whatever you’ve got going on this summer!
