Summertime is my absolute favorite time of year! This is when everyone is hanging out with family and friends, going to barbecues, pool parties, and all of the fun summer activities. I also know how stressful it can be, because food is everywhere-I used to feel this way, back when I was dieting all of the time. I’ve been getting a lot of questions from new clients who are struggling with their nutrition and getting out of the ‘diet’ mindset, so I wanted to dive more into restrictive diets versus counting macros today.

Your diet is what you actually put into your body. I'm sure you've heard before, but your diet isn't only what you eat, and there is so much more that goes into it. What I'm talking about today though, IS the actual food you're eating, and putting into your body.

So, you know, when you hear the word diet, you think of it probably as negative and like something that you have to do, cut out, etc., and I experienced that with all of the different diets, programs, etc. that I followed in the past. I did things like eating off of food lists, putting my food into color-coded containers (Beachbody programs of course), meal prepping all of my food out for the week, and more. These all ended up being negative for me, and I knew I couldn't do these kinds of things forever either.

When I teach my ladies about macros, when I teach you about macros, it's a little strange, and can be a little overwhelming at first-just like anything else that's new. it's something that actually can be done forever though, and it's completely different from a typical diet.

In today’s episode, I’m talking about:

  • The variety of restrictive ‘diets’ I tried before finding the world of macronutrients (aka counting macros)
  • How food can become a positive thing (instead of something you view as negative) when you start counting macros
  • Why you don’t need to waste your money on expensive diet programs and products to see the results you want
  • The importance of getting out of the restrictive mindset and learning to fuel your body properly for your goals

Whether you're at a restaurant or eating at someone's house, you don't have to always pick the 'clean' or 'healthy' option. When you're counting macros, you GET to have whatever on the menu, and see how it can fit into your macros. When get to see carbs as fuel and energy, and you get to see protein as fuel and energy that will help you build lean muscle, you get to order whatever you want on the menu, and it's not longer a negative, or stressful thing.

I want you to have the knowledge, control, and confidence when it comes to your body and your health. You don’t have to feel restricted anymore when it comes to your nutrition, and like you “can’t” have your favorite things. When you’re counting macros, you can find freedom, and keep things simple too, all while making positive progress with your health and fitness goals!
