I recently celebrated my 41st birthday, and I feel like I learned SO much in my 40th year! I’m excited to share with you some of my biggest ‘aha’ moments I had over the last year, especially since they’re all connected to my health and fitness journey too.

The year of 40 was a big year for me. I know that turning 40 is kind of a big year for every woman. It's like, for some reason, this milestone that's like the big 4-0. 30 was kind of rough for me, actually, because coming out of my twenties was kind of interesting, and then coming out of my thirties, I thought I would feel more mature and like, I expected myself to change. Actually..I did, because 40 was a doozy! t I learned SO many things and I want to share some of them with you today. I'm excited to just kind of chat with you, tell you about some of the things that I've learned along the way, especially as they pertain to my health and fitness too.

In today's episode, I'm talking about 7 important things I learned in my 40th year, which were:

  • Having grace with myself and realizing fitness is so much more than physical (the mental and emotional components are vital, and seem to lead to the physical actually happening)
  • I can actually eat way more than I think (and I should be), and I can thrive while doing so
  • I don’t have to obsess about tracking every single macro, meal, workout, etc. (it's okay to loosen up and not feel like I have to be perfect all of the time)
  • Everything in life has seasons, and so does my health and fitness (ex. my kids and their sports seasons-some are way busier than others)
  • I have to learn to work with my body, not against it (this is not a one-size-fits-all approach after all, and what gets you to one goal, probably won't get you to the next one)
  • I have to be on my health and fitness journey for the right reasons (I have to keep my priorities straight, like spending more time with my family and friends, and I don't want to be eating foods and doing workouts I absolutely hate)
  • Fitness is now more of a sidebar in my life, not my primary focus (which is how it should be); this led to my emotional state being better than ever, my nervous system regulating, and my digestion improving

I’ve learned that my journey is ultimately about taking care of myself from the inside out, and it’s not going to look just like yours, or anyone else’s-it never should. Once I figured this key part out, everything fell into place, and became so simple. I hope that sharing all of these will encourage you as well, no matter where you are on your health and fitness journey!
